They can be had really cheap in the C5 parts section some times. As low as $25. FLY LOW had some for $175 shipped, new with pads, you could try him.

Default Brakes vs Wheels

Conversion sounds good. Will my 17" sawblades fit over the new calipers and rotors? 91-C4

No, the saw blades do not fit.

Any idea of what wheel options I need to get larger/better brakes on the front?

Progress, painted them w/RED & Black Caliper paint and left the lettering silver, then clear coated w/1200-degree clear

Looks great. I modified my bracket design so I could retain the heat shields. Supposedly these keep the rotors from cooking the ball joints and everything else.

Either that or they keep water off that side of the rotor, but the gap is much bigger than with the stock brakes.

Thanks, the paint looked good and the clear coat kicked up the gloss a bit

Is there interference with the heat shield on the 85?

I am using the 17" saw blade wheels with the C5 brake conversion on my '86 with no current issues. The car is used for autocross and track sessions.

The heat shields bolt to the knuckles, but your brackets are going to hog all the real estate. Probably not worth messing with unless you've got a bandsaw in the garage. Or maybe you could modify the heat shield itself. Some use them to attach a brake duct hose to.

The new C5 pads came with the non-indicator pad,,, having a nice black matte finish on it and the pad with the indicator had palin steel,, I assumed that the matter finish was to point outward,,,, so it is.

Thanks for your help, they are on and loooooking goood!

Yup that's right. I've also seen someone post rotor temps from their C6 Z51 (with factory backwards rotor on one side) and the correct one did cool better.

Interesting though, that I spun it by hand both directions and it seemed to move more air when installed backwards. Maybe I wasn't spinning fast enough. Most centrifugal fans use forward curved blades though. Go figure.

Well when you think of how and end mill works on a milling machine, the vanes would look like the elctro-dynamics pic
