Uh, I looked at this cam and I thought the lift shown (0.560) was with 1.6. Turns out, it's with 1.5, so with 1.6 it'll be like 0.597 - 0.600 " lift right? Am I looking at this correctly?
1.6 x .3735"(Lobe Lift) = .5976" lift. or just say .598". I was thinking Comp Cams had some "quicker acting" cams than this one too. More like 280*/230* and 6++" lift. That 110* LSA might give some trouble tuneing; most folks here like 112*.
A buddy of mine has that cam in a 4 speed 69 camaro with AFR heads,. He has complained about a lack of torque. 3.73 gears, I think. I'm not sure about which gearset is in the tranny.
Its a carbed car, so I imagine his tune is not what it could be. I would think some more spark advance down low would help. Car made around 280 rwhp on a mustang dyno a few years back. There should be more in it.
I have a sound clip of it idling, that I can post on monday since its on a network drive that I don't have access to right now.
It sounds pretty good, a bit lumpier than my Comp 503.
I think it would be ok in a 383 SR car with 3.54-3.73 gearing.
it's hard for me to fathom only 280rw out of that cam and AFR heads. i'd suggest something is wrong, somewhere.
that lobe is killer. it's an old lobe but still works better than almost anything around those numbers. i think it's probably not well matched to L98 heads and a long-runner intake, though. in an LT1 it would be difficult to beat for a given level of drivability.
It should make quite a bit more power than that. I was there when he made the pulls and also have a video of it around somewhere.
For a frame of reference: LS1 cars were pulling around 300 rwhp, and an LS6 Z06 was around 340 on the same dyno that day.
The heads as far as I'm aware are the older AFR 190s. The carb tuning and ignition timing must be way off. Cam is the retro-fit HR version. 286 Magnum I think.

As for heads, I'm using the AFR 195 Eliminators and my gearing is 3.33.
I chose this cam over the 219 because I'm gonna have boatloads of torque so I sacrificed some tq for some hp, thus the higher duration. I kept the duration to a usable level by choosing 230 and not going any higher. I believe this cam should work well and give me "the best of both worlds" between hp and tq.
