hey guys long time i haven't been here, busy working and stuff but tonight was bad,i took the car out for a spin and the ground was jujst a little wet from the rain, and i lost control of the car...i hit a paver wall..i am ok,but the car looked awful sitting on those bricks, the tow guy said it shouldn't be more than 5k damage but we will see what the insurance says
later guys
:cry
yeah i hydroplaned 3 or 4 weeks ago, in a puddle about a millimeter deep, so i dont think its gonna be goin out in the rain ever again. The wheel just came out of my hand.
Glad your okay. I try not go out in the rain if I can help it. A few weeks ago I was turning left, light rain, ASR off (because I always turn it off before I put on my seatbelt), light turned green, proceded to take off and next thing you know I was siiting backwards facing three lanes of on coming traffic. You have got to be very careful in the rain. I will try not to do that ever again.
Glad to hear that you're okay!! I almost lost it a while ago in the rain too, I was in third and hit the gas a little too hard and started going sideways...scary stuff!
Hope you get back on the road with your Vette soon :D
Glad to hear that you are okay. I am especially careful just after it starts due to the oil that comes up from the road surface. I keep the ASR and traction control on most of the time and has surprised me when it has activated.
well i just went to the impound where my car stayed over night...i am sending it to a friend of mine and see what he can do but its mostly the front bumper and foglights..also there is a hoile under the driver side, where the feet go(right where the seat starts,it seems like cardboard from the bottom,)i am not calling the insurance since they would prolly never insure me again,by the way my airbag didn't even go off..
thanks for your words guys
Glad to hear you are OK.
I did the same thing to my Polo Green just 3 weeks ago. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=171913
Mine ended up a total loss with $15,500 in damage (bent frame). At least you will get yours back.:)
Just take as as an expensive drivers lesson, and enjoy the benefits of having car insurance.
ok guys i got the estimate from my garage friend..12k....i don;t know if i should call the insurance or cry,,,,,here where i live if you claim something they most of the time screw u up with other insurance co.!
Rain is always tricky to drive in. I have been lucky enough to avoid any mishaps but its easy to get into one. Here's some suggestions.
1. Keep a good distance between you and the car in front of you....and if your have to stop quickly and have room to take extra space to stop, look in your rear view mirror to see if the guy behind is going to need that extra space. You'd be amazed what you see in your rear view mirror at a time like that.
2. Try practicing finessing the throttle in a wet parking lot. An asphalt lot that has just been painted with sealer is ideal. Its like ice.
3. Avoid puddles if you can. If you see one, hang on to the steering wheel to keep it straight as possible. Don't touch the brakes or the gas. Wait until the car has exit the puddle to straighten the car.
4. Make sure your rear tires have as much tread as your front tires. Cars with good front tires and bald rear tires have been know to swap ends on wet roads.
5. Try not to drive too fast and use your lights. So many people drive in the rain without lights.
Sorry to hear of your accident ~ glad you're OK. Been there, done that - very recently. The car will repair OK, just have patience. Took almost 3 months for mine to be completed, but she looks great now. Will be posting new pictures soon.
If you decide not to tell the insurance company, you might be able
to pay for another vette by selling the undamaged parts of your
old one. I have a hard time resisting this temptation myself, but
I just hate the thought of one less vette in the world  .
A few weeks ago I was turning left, light rain, ASR off (because I always turn it off before I put on my seat belt), light turned green, proceded to take off and next thing you know I was sitting backwards facing three lanes of on coming traffic. .
Why the #$%^ do you think GM put ASR in them.. I can understand turning it off if the road is dry, & you plan on some Hi Perf driving, but to turn it off as a habit is plain dumb...
It's there to help in just the situation you were in ... turning in wet weather..
Why not leave the seat belt off too  & while your at it, try & see what kind of 0-60 you can do in the rain..be sure to do it on a sharp curve..
Then people cry when they smash up their "Baby" Its bad enough to get in an accident when you have no control over what happens, but WHY add to the chance by turning the ASR "OFF" in the rain much less ????
Sorry to hear about the accident. I got rear-ended by a SUV about a month and 1/2 ago. I have had no problem with the insurance compaines at all, in fact they are installing a new Corsa exhaust system on my 92 to replace the bent stock one. Costs less. Like mine, as long as everyone is OK, the vette can be repaired or replaced. Cost of repair is up to around $5,000 so far.
Before fix.
During fix
Fixed, except for exhaust going on this week.
4. Make sure your rear tires have as much tread as your front tires. Cars with good front tires and bald rear tires have been know to swap ends on wet roads.
This is what happened to me. Driving straight down the road all of a sudden I am spinning and hammer the rear end into the center divider. Since then I have gotten the Firehawks and I can drive in the rain again with no problems.
