Yea, a real puzzler. It started today at lunch, and is easily invoked whenever I want it to happen.
Left... right... it matters not... the service ASR light comes on (due to the H62 in the EBCM, loss of tach signal because the engine stalled) and an H42 in the ECM, something to do with the knock sensor(s) (circuit to ground).
And yes, the obvious one, I filled the tank with gas!! Even so, it had ~7 gallons left. So the fuel pump and/or delivery become less of a probability. I guess it is possibly a bad wiring harness to the fuel pump...
Now... can a grounded knock sensor cause a motor to die? It starts right back up, or, if I straighten out fast enough, it will keep running. I am wondering if the wire to a knock sensor has frayed and is grounding out to the chassis somewhere.
I once had a similar problem in my old 88 IROC. The ground to the fuel pump relay was intermittent in turns. Ran a new ground wire, and all was fine. I diagnosed that via a scantool, watching the fuel pump voltage when the problem occurred... at least that's how I remember it happening, it was almost 10 years ago

So you probably need to keep the tank below half full all the time....
I'm guessing that since your car has been subjected to continuous sunshine through out the summer, it is needing some rain and nasty weather to wake up some grounds and connector packs.
The turning g's are impacting some wiring? Might try looking for a loose connection, or bad grounding point. Maybe a wire wrapped around the steering shaft?
Eastern cars with all their rust and corrosion easily become problematic when subjected to Kalifornia weather. Maybe you need to drive in some mud puddles and drainage ditches to make it feel at home again.
Yeah, but a full tank of what? Broccoli??? That won't work, you need gas. And he said himself the gas tank was totally dry, he even said he lit a match in it and nothing happened.
the fuel pump is a POS... that's a given. Some Carter hunk of junk that has whined since day one. how annoying.
When I filled, the car had about 7 gallons, so that removes fuel delivery, at least pickup problems, I hope. Unless this is one of those annoying situations where the lining within the tank has rotted away.
I drove it this morning, and it seemed fine... odd... I will test it more later.

I'm not sure if I understand your original post correctly. Did the car act up AFTER filling it up? My car turns to sht about 1 bar below half already. I know not to hammer on it (not that I would on the streets) around people when the gauge gets to that point cause it acts up.
If it did act up on a full tank that's a different story. If it didn't on a full tank but did on a 7 gallon tank I will go with poor fuel pickup.
I woulkd make sure the battery had a full charge on it and try another alternator if yo have one. When they go bad all sorts of weird stuff can hapen, ditto on the battery. Ive had both "test" good but actually be bad. Replaced both, problem solved.
