Default 1991 L98 engine options and $

I have posted before and my 1991 Vette Conv with 15K had engine failure thus the reason for new. My options and cost are as follows: 325 HP for $8000, 370 HP for $9960, 383 with 425 HP $10900, and a 383with 475 HP for $11400. These are my total costs with tax and warrenty. Everything is included from custom exhaust, computer work, top of the line parts etc... I will never sell my car and it is in mint condition. Having a hard time picking which option I should go with. I do not really want to spend the money, but you get what you pay for. Any input would be greatly app. Thanks

Wow that is a lot of money! I would just have the stock engine rebuilt with some good parts, 383 would be nice. You must do something with the intake to make good power though. Do these options you have come with a better then stock intake? You can take a 425 HP engine, put the stock TPI on it, and make far far less HP.

I personally would stick with the 325 horsepower. It is more than enough for pick up and go IMO. A good side of it is that its cheaper. More power you make means more wear/tear. If you got the money though, then whatever floats your boat. One thing though, what do there warranties consist of? Check for a loophole. Not covered if appllication breaks under racing/extreme conditions?

My choice is none of the above.

I could build a 400+ horse engine for no more than half of what that 325 costs.

And bear in mind if these engines get your TPI intake on them, they wont make anywhere near those ratings.

i would get your car out of their care, sounds to me like you could buy another 'vette for what they are charging you.. i just bought a couple books on rebuilding chevy motors, so when the time and extra money comes i will be able to at least pull the motor, send it to be machined, then assemble, and install it myself. maybe that would be a good route for you? anyways best of luck, hope it works out

Ship it back home. You have not investigated your options well enough if the best overall deal for a 325 hp engine installed. That is an insane amount of money. Period.

doug herbert performance lists a 475 hp 383 for $3.999,complete ,less distributor and intake.you could upgrade intake and get other parts you need to make that motor close to those numbers and pay to have it done, still save thousands

I'm looking into the DHP 383 Chevy SB Stroker as I write. My guy wants $1400 for removel and install of new engine. Headers and intake upgrade for sure will add to the cost so maybe around 7K when all said and done. Going with the best parts I can afford.

Roughly 700-1000 used, as you will not find all of it new at the moment I bet.

A major consideration given the age and that it's a convertible would be body flex from too much engine. IMHO

Before I spent money like that I would ask the shop for customers you can call and talk to to ensure the mechanic / shop is throughly knowledgeable. If they are pleased with the performance, was the work done on time, and as quoted (price), and did they get the performance they expected. You want to spend between 8K to 11K that is like purchasing another C-4! I would be very cautious, if it were me. JMO

A rag car can easily handle 400+ hp. I have one that doesn't seem to mind.

That top shop you sent it to doesn't seem too top to me either with those options and prices.

I'm going with the DHP 383 Chevy SB Stroker for $4150 shipped. With my additions and engine dress up I'll be around $7500 after it is all said and done.

i think you made a wise decision, building a motor would take time.a performance engine from tthese guys will be reliable and warranty.make sure you get the right intake and exhaust to get the rated power.and check with someone about that kind of power with a vert.good luck.

Default enginefactory.com

I just went to enginefactory.com and they have some cool Corvette engines. Just go to the site and click on corvette engines on the left side of the page. Lots of money though (383 for around 10K plus options)?
