Timing question...
I'm looking for a general (read "safe") timing range to break this thing in at until I can get it dynotuned. Car has:
AFR 195's
Superchaged
224/234 @ .050" .465/.488 cam.
While I was breaking in the lifter, the total advance read 43.6 at 1512 rpm. I'm not sure if that high or low. I had the BTM set at 2.5*/psi when I shot it around the block for a few minutes, just to be safe. I can't time the initial, since I had to bring it up so high (+10*) to solve the header issue, but I may have gone too high in my haste to cool off the exhaust. What do you guru's think?
Your ignition timing should be relative to engine load. Depending on you chip tune, you should be about:
36-38 deg at WOT You need to do a data log to confirm!!
You shouldn't dial yor BTM to a ?
Your timing under boost (3+PSI) should be 25-28 deg total.
You should buy or borrow a data log system so you can run the car and see what timing you chip is throwing in. You can then work your #'s backwords to see what to set the dial at to get to the 25 deg.
Once you have run on a dino and are sure you have good A.F. you may then want to add timing for more power.
Your chip may throw in 40+ deg of timing under high vaccuum (no load)
But you will burn her down quick if you see boost at that level
