Default SC or SR? or ???

Background:
I have an 89 L98 with modified exhaust. I have an oversize (2 1/2") front Y feeding into Side Effects sidepipes. Side Effects are reported to perform like a 2 3/4" catback (and they do have that much cross-section). I could modify this setup to be true dual if I cut the "Y"s out and connected each side.... but that's not the question. This is just to provide background on my setup. (Note: I also have stock shorty headers.)

I've customized the exterior to include a hirise hood, so I have xtra room under the hood. I also have the need to replace injectors and remove the plenum/runners...... I also have a minor oil leak that may require redoing the valve cover gaskets and/or the intake manifold gasket. With that in mind, I'm thinking of what I might do when it's ripped apart.

The question(s):
SC or SR? Change runners and siamese plenum? bigger injectors with that? I'm not sure....

I am relatively certain I don't want to go hogwild. I don't really want to put different heads/cam in it because I'm not a racer. And, I have too many dang projects going on otherwise..... I do have the opportunity to spend $2-3K if I want.

My first thought was a SC because the procharger site lists 55% gains on an other stock L98. (I assume they mean with an improved exhaust though)! I further assumed forcing of air compensates for the increase in head/intake size done in non-FI improved setups (e.g., MR/SR).

I see a link in my other thread where you can buy a generic mount, belts, tubing, etc... for a powerdyne SC @ $950. Another link points to rebuilt PowerDynes for another $950. Assuming some other things, I'd guess $2,500 for the two, intercooler, FMU, new chip or whatever else might be recommended. Here's where you guys come in!!!

I know ProCharger and another new SC cost $5K+. I'm not interested in spending this kind of dough for more HP. Too many other priorities....

I'm not as sure about the MR/SR setups or what their gains might be -- especially if I don't want to change heads/cam. (I know the '89 has 119 heads but I don't know how restrictive the intake manifold is by itself). Overall, I don't know how more flow compares to FI -- especially dollar for dollar....

Hit me with your thoughts about the possibilities. Address the exhaust if you feel it's necessary. Exclude discuss about NOS. Don't want the bottle, refills, etc...

I'm interested in this discussion as well. I'd like to hear from the experts here.

The other sc I'd consider would be the non-intercoolled Procharger D1 serpentine race kit, which seems to go for $3500. The other kits are very expensive.

The powerdyne/tempo kit looks appealing since I was considering heads as my next mod. $1500 may net 40-50 hp with heads.

With a used powedyne, $2k ought to net more than 100 hp.

Regarding the original question:

A SR by itself may only be worth 20-25 Hp. Used SRs can go for anything between $700 and $1200. If you can get one relatively cheap, its not a bad way to go.

I would say go with the supercharger. Nowadays, the prices under $1000 for a super ram are gone except for a very rare find. One just sold on ebay for $1925! If you are on a budget and plan on changing the intake, try going with another intake, or just put a little more together and buy a used supercharger. There are currently two prochargers for sale on camaroz28.com. One is complete and ready to go for $2000. Another needs to be rebuilt, but has all hardware for $1100.

i am in your shoes. I just got the melrose exhaust/corsa and i'm gonna go with a blowerworks kit from Greg. it's kinda pricey, but you aren't drastically changing any components in the car. if it's enough for me.. i won't have to change much. but if i want more, i'll go intake, cam heads later on.
just seems like the better fit for me.

Blowers, turbo's, the jug- you get what you pay for. Spending a couple of extra bucks can mean the difference between "works" and "works without any issues". I ve never used any of Greg's products but he has a very good reputation for quality and attention to detail.

I say turbo it buy yourself a mig welder, start out with 16g mild steel. It is very cheap to buy. If you screwed up, buy more pipes and redo it again. For a 350ci or a 355ci. you can fit a single full T4 60-1 turbo in the engine bay easily. That T4 60-1 is not that big and is good to 550hp which is perfect for mild setup and still affordable. You can nuy some cheap ebay a/a intercooler. At the end it is still cheaper than a SC kit. If you use 321SS pipes it would cost a craps load of $$. $74 for a bend ouch. just a thought.

PS. Just be ware. When you got boost, it is a drugs, so addictive.

How many miles on your motor. Too many and your going to have more blow by than boost. Plus your gaskets will start leaking. Just a thought before you buy a blower and install and find out your going to have atleast rering your motor. www.blowerworks.net is the best for the most complete kit with excellent tech help if you need it. I have had two of Greg's kits.
