I think alot of guys have shown there was no performance gain on after market MAFs. That said, if you're talking about the larger MAF housing, I think a couple guys have tried it and believe it did help HP, if memory serves it was about 9 HP. Hopefully they'll chime in.
I tried the Larger MAF housing and it did't do squat. I believe Jesse also tried it with a 10 second car and it did not improve his ET a bit. In order for a larger MAF housing to help it would need to be the limmiting factor for intake airflow and in looking at Ski's results that is far from reality. He makes a hell of a lot more power then most of the cars on this board and the MAF still was not the limmiting factor. Just my 2cents
Don't waste your money, in fact if you install a larger MAF you may even loose power because the new unit will not have a calibration that coincides with the PCM MAF table that is programmed in the PCM or your ECM.
Which type are you referrring to? The Granatelli has a different sensor that fools the PCM into leaning out at WOT. I would get a custom tune for this instead. A custom tune is much cheaper and has many additional benefits. There are many arguments for and against descreening or porting the MAF housing. You'll have to read both sides and decide for yourself. If nothing else maybe a plastic housing will help by not retaining heat. They go for about $40. Mine idled and ran fine after the install but it may still require some tuning.
The plastic one is what I was referring to, isn't it a little larger too? Thought the test showed 9HP, hardly something you'd feel. Nevertheless...9HP is a sizeable gain for $40.
Yeah, that's the site....or rather the website is posted there, seems like an unbiased test, read the other parts they tested and decide for yourself.
