New 88 Vette, top stuck on... HELP!!!
So I bought a beat up, but reliably running 88 Vette for dirt cheap and can't figure out how to remove the glass top for the replacement of the windshield. I already removed all the (4) torx bolts and the top is just solidly stuck on. No matter how hard I try to "gently pound" the metal frame with a rubber mallet + towel near the front, its still not even budging one bit. Any tips and tricks on how to do with without breaking stuff? The vibration and shock is starting to separate the glass from the frame...oops!

The front ones don't need to be removed. They stay captured. The rear ones get removed completely.
Sometimes these things get stuck with the weatherstrip, but if you've been pounding, they should have got unstuck by now.

Make sure the front bolts are loose and the rears are completely out then push up on the rear section. There's nothing stopping it from coming up if the bolts are out.
You might also try putting the windows up and have someone close the door just as you push up. The air pressure might help.

When I bought my 88 just over a year ago the hard top was very hard to get off the first time. Just kept pushing and hitting my hands and she came off. Since then no problems. Good luck.

Cool its out now. Seems like the old owner used some silicon on it taking off some of the weatherstripping too. But damn was that a job. The top comes off in 3 minutes on my 89, but took a few hours of kinda beating on it upwards with the mallet. Now unto replacing the windshield...
