Would it hurt a stock motor if it all the sudden swallowed a lot of alcohol by accident ??? I don't care if it makes more power just so long as it would'nt hurt anything.
It won't hurt to run booze... but it won't help...
the only thing that will work with alcohol is higher compression.
you don't wanna run too much alcohol, tho... there are problems here that you need to consider... the biggest, alcohol will harm the rubber and metal components of the engine... CART and IRL, and I suspect WOO, and anyone who runs alcohol engines, pickle them in gas after they run the alcohol. or else things start to rot.
might you be thinking alcohol+nitrous inj.? :D
otherwise not sure on low comp motor, but on race motor
basicly just fuel sys. rubber and volume, nearly 2x gas.
oh and foam out of fuel cell
I don't believe you can just run some alocohol through your car. I know that you cannot do it on a carb setup. I had to switch carbs and pumps as well as a larger fuel line on my race car when I converted...but then again its a carb setup. Wouldn't it burn the heck out of the valves?
These are the things I need to know about. It wouldn't be all the time, ONLY if another component failed releasing the alcohol into the engine. I just need to know what things could happen if say 1/2 gallon or so "decided" to free itself into the engine. I could care less if it stalled the car, what I don't want is "teardown" problems. IE burn valves, broken crank, etc...........
In it's everyday use the alcohol won't be going through the engine, however if the system it will be running in ruptures then it could (depending on the rupture location) deliver itself to the engine for consumption.
ok, I won't even try another guess, but 1/2 gal. of any fluid
into the intake tract and you will probably at least bend rods
and possibly break the crank
I hope I didn't upset you with my comment.
I have learned to keep a pretty tight lid on some of my ideas because I end up getting a whole lot of these :nono:    If you know what I mean. The only way *we* can learn is through expermentation so I experment. I am sure someone else has probably tried what I am thinking about & it didn't do diddley, but that's how I have fun. I just love to tinker. I hope you understand.

Neal,
not at all, I really was just out of guesses!
Is it methanol (wood alcohol) that you want to experiment with?
Rough math say it needs to be close to 95% pure denatured alcohol to handle the temps I am going to subject it to. I don't know off the top of my head if they are the same.
Old timer talk again  I had a friend many years ago that had a 58 Chevy, 348, tripower. He used a tank, pump, and hose for a windshield washer. He routed the hose into the air intake. When he wanted a shot of alcohol from the windshield washer tank he just bumped the switch. Did it help? Did it hurt? Was it cool to talk about? You bet!
Re: Alcohol Injection or there bouts (Larry Mackey)
He used a normal windshield washer pump................hummmmmmmmm......... .........that may solve my circulation problem............cheaply..........
