Default 1996 PCM number/identification

How can you tell if you have a 1996 PCM. My repair shop replaced my PCM in my 1995 A4 Cpe and said they could not get one from a 95 but were are to newer one. I would like to confirm this. Does anyone know what the number would be? I looked at the FAQ's but it stops at 1995, is it possible they had one from a 97 F-body? Anyway I am looking for a way to identfy it.

Thanks

Found with a simple google search:
94-95: 16188051 or 16181333
96: 16214399
97: 16242921

Is this a vette shop, or an LT1 shop, or some random hack shop?

You have to change the knock sensors when you swap to the OBD2 PCM. Hopefully they knew that. Seems like if they knew it they would have told you though, since it could cause problems in the future if you didn't know it.

The reman # I posted replaces 16214399 as the new ones are not made anymore. I verified this with the folks at PCMFORLESS. When I put in my HotCam I plan to have the reman unit reprogrammed.

You need more than that for OBD2. 96 has crank position sensor and 4 O2 sensors instead of just 2.

To install an OBD2 LT1 PCM in an OBD1 LT1 car the only hardware change required is to change to OBD2 knock sensors. (Alternatively, the PCM can be modified to work with the OBD1 KS, but the simpler solution is to change the KS.)

94-95 LT1 vettes (the years in question for this swap) have 3 not 2. But it is irrelevant to the swap. Nobody installs a CPS and 4th O2 to make the OBD2 PCM swap.

Well, don't I just look like an idiot. Glad someone knows what they are talking about.
