Is this a good upgrade for $40?

I'll bet you'd lose a slight amount of low end torque, enough to cancel out the gain up high.

 

I've got them on my 95. The HP gains were tested on a dyno.

Looks like a gimmick to me!

 

Remember that the system will only flow as much as it's "weakest" link. That could be your Air filtering,Throttle Body, MAF, etc. If you have a 700 CFM TB, that's all you're gonna flow.

 

I doubt you will see any real world difference for the money spent.

If your's is broken and needing replacement, I was told by many people, even a couple Corvette mechanics to go with the OEM MAF as the after market ones just don't last as long, have problems, etc.

 

Ok, sounds like it will not give much of a gain. So I will wait until I need one to upgrade.
