Default 90 plug wire change

All,

I need to change my plug wires on my 90 L98 (some of them arc;car runs poorly). I've been following discussion from time to time on this topic about the degree of difficulty on this project. I have limited skills (rather a newbie) and I'm not sure where to start. Is it best to change one at a time, or take them all off ( clearly marking them before hand), and then reverse the process? Also the passenger side looks to be a real challenge as far as access. Best to jack car and remove wheels and panel to rear of wheel?

Thanks in advance for your guidance. I have all the wires and plastic clips and I'm ready to go if I know how best to proceed.

BTW, this is my daily driver so if I start this, I have to be ready to roll on Monday morning.

hey there..

i got an 87 vert and i did my wires this morning.. i bought the MSD 8.5s and made up the coil boots myself (universal kit)

it took me less than 2 hours and i didnt remove anything except the coil cover.

i did mine one at a time and it was no problem whatsoever..the headers made it a bit easier however i doubt youll have much difficulty..

i read the post about being quoted 5.5 hours for the job.. and all i can imagine is that the lt-1s must be harder to get to.

good luck and have fun!

Bret

Bret,

Thanks!

Passenger side still looks ominous, as plenty of other "equipment" in the way!

5 hours? That makes no sense. On the L-98 it should be like maybe 20 minutes at tops? What makes it take so long for you guys. Remove the distributor cover, then pull each wire and put a new one on. Thats it right?

Did my 85 2 weeks ago. Took 1/2 hour and 4 beers. Got headers though.

do the wires one at a time. its super easy that way. just lay the new wires all out on the ground to show their diffrent leinghts, as you pull a wire, lay it down an find its correct lenght in the new set and re install the new one. one by one, this should take less than an hour to do. rubber gloves keep your hands from gettin dirty. around the steering linkage and what not. please use that stupid grease for the connectors. I hate stuck spark plug boots.

I did mine on my 1990 and tied a string on each one and then tied it to the new one to pull them through because you cant get the wires to go down behind the dist. and under all the rest of the crap on the pass. side. Also to remove the plugs on the pass. side you do hace to take off the inner fender well cover it makes it much easyer,as you might as well put in plugs if your getting in to it.
