The instructions for this kit I got are the pits. The kit has two shims and two bolts in it, to do the entire car. Do I cut the tops offs the retainers you can see in the picture and then put the metal plates on top of them and then bolt the spring back in ?????
Second question. Looking at the rear diff, it has two shims on top of the spring. When lowering the back do I put these shims on the bottom of the spring and then bolt it back in and then use the two long bolts that are in the kit where the hanger bolts are on either end. You can see the shims in the picture. Sorry to be so vague but like I said, the instructions suck.

Re: C-4 Lowering (Ron D)
Don't touch the shims near the centre of the rear spring!
Only install the longer bolts - thats all you need to do. To lower the car you loosen the bolts.
Up front, you remove the shims and metal pads on the top of the spring and install only the new shims that came with the kit - you leave out the old shims (both metal and plastic ones).
Check out this website of another forum member (not sure of his forum name - I saved the link months and months ago... This might give you a better idea of whats involved... http://www5.ewebcity.com/timbarnes/index.asp
Yeah, those pictures should help you. The bolts you change out are on the end of the rear springs, hold up the end of the spring with a jack like in the pictures. On the front you replace the shims.
Thanks alot guys. Sort of makes you wonder why they don't just give a few actual pictures like those to show you what is involved. Life would be to easy then. Just about had to turn in my man badge for reading the instructions to begin with :D

Re: C-4 Lowering (lemans396)
What if you just remove the factory pads (front) without replacing them with anything ? Would that work.?
It would. There was a thread here a few weeks ago that discussed going lower than the lowering kits allow. In it someone said that removing the factory pads and not replacing them with anything is worth about 1/4 to 1/2 (I think...) of an inch lower than the installing the lowering kit shims would allow. A friend of a friend did this on his 88 convertible without any problems. I'm thinking seriously about doing this but am worried about clearance on our crummy roads when I get headers.
Another option that some have done is to shave or remove the spring pads on the outer edges of the spring (on the bottom of the spring) as an alternative or supplement to modifying the top of the spring to lower the front. Personally I'm not too keen on that method because I don't like the idea of rubbing the bottom of the spring against the lower a-arm without the rubber to insulate it.
