I have a Dana 36 and from what I understand you can only upgrade from 2.56 to 3.54. My car is a 96 with a automatic and LT-1. I want to know if the guys with 3.54's are blowing the tires away in first. Also is their a gear ratio between 2.56's and 3.54's that I can install. Thanks for the info in advance. :chevy :chevy :chevy
Your gears are 2.59s. Unless you have the performance axle, then they are 3.07. You can get 3.54 or 3.73 for a dana 36. The only thing in between I know of are the 3.07s, if you don't have them already.
Catdaddy,
Dana has offered 2.53:1, 2.59:1, 2.73:1, 3.07:1, and 3.31:1 gears for the 36 ICA axle. My 1993 Dana book doesn't show 3.54:1. Replacement gear manufacturers offer 3.75:1 and 4.09:1 ratios also. There may be other (3.54:1) ratios available in the after market too. Bear in mind that any ratio change that crosses the line between 2.73:1 and 3.07:1 will require a case change. The case that I am refering to is the differential case, the case that the ring gear bolts to. I have not researched the after market. Some may offer a "thick" gear that would allow "slow" (3.07:1 and numerically higher) gears to be used with the "fast" case. As you can see there are several options between 2.56:1 (?) and 3.54:1. Have fun.

I have the 3.54. If I just move from brake to gas, full throttle, it spins for about 10ft. and goes. If I power brake it, it will spin up into 2nd gear. By the way I have 285 series mich. pilot tires.
