Default small cap dist conversion wiring ?

hi guys,
ok ,i just bought msd 8226 coil and msd 8366 small cap distributor.
i know here to buy the conversion harneses from jims performance.com
so i will need Hei dist to small cap plug,
a small cap dist to ext coil wire feed plug &
external coil to module jumper feed plug.
is that rite guys please ?
so i know where to hook up hei to small cap plug, but what about the other two plugs mentioned , where do they go/fit please ?
does one of them hook up to the tach/red wire plugs and the other plug hook up to the distributor ?
on the reccomended coil # 8226, the plug that fits on that is a 4 prong wire fitting by the look of it and im not sure if the other fittings as in the coil feed module jumper plug will fit as i havent recieved all the parts i just ordered you see yet .
as there are on my L98 1991 vette are a red power wire and a tan tacho wire also !!!
can any one please advise/expalin to me please ?
may be some pictures/diagrams would be great!
has any one brought all the plugs/conversion harneses i mentioned above please?,if so any problems/mods to be done to make work/fit please?
thanks alot guys
cheers

Look up the installation instructions for the MSD 6AL ignition and look over the installation of the small cap distributor pg 14 and the old large cap HEI pg 17 and you should be able to dicipher the wire connections you need to make. The electrical schematic in your FSM will also help. The harness pigtails for the small cap distributor are available at your local Chevy dealer. Hope this helps.

I have done it on my 89 to solve the clearance issue with my Miniram intake. I'm thinking about doing it on my 88, its just a matter of time. You'd need a few items and maybe a few connectors, perhaps available at a dealership or any junkyard. I know someone else has to have info on doing this. What I can remember is cutting off the 4 wire harness connector from my old distributer and splicing it back to back with another connector as an adapter. Splice in the tan tachometer wire and the pink B+ wire back to back with another junkyard connector, hook them up to the external coil, find a spare spark plug wire that connects between the coil and the center terminal of the small cap distributer and you're done!!!

Its been a long time but I seem to recall having to install a balast resistor in line. The old white ceramic style one. Don't quote me on this but it does stick out in memory

Shae,
How/where did you mount the coil? I just bought a 8366 distributor, and I am going to need a coil, but I am wondering where to mount it, I know it has to be within 36" of the distributor.
Any insight/pictures would be great

Thanks, Randy

hi there randy,
i mounted the msd coil of the heater box that i made up a bracket for.
or you can also mount it of the brake booster bolt with bracket that has a right angle and is about 5 " long, quite simple but works/looks well.
sorry got no pictures though.
cheers

John,
The coil needs to be close to the distributor, but the box can go just about anywhere. I have seen them mounted up by the headlights. If you go to the tech tips section, there is a write up on mounting one and making a bracket for it.

Good luck,
Randy

Can't find it. I'm not worried about mounting it. I worried about wiring it to the msd box, cars stock rpm gauge, and the new dist.
