LS education please.................
Did G.M. ever put an aluminum LS based motor in a Cadillac SUV or other SUVs?I know the cast iron motors in the older trucks and SUVs were LS based,but cast iron,LM family I think.Theres was some talk awhile back on the C6 forum about the aluminum motor being put in some G.M. SUVs and I have never heard of this.I know the CTS-V has the Z-06 motor.This might be the wrong spot for this thread but I know there as some pretty knowledgeable gearhaeds on this side so I thought Id ask.Thanks.

All of GM's current truck engines are LS-based, including the Escalade's engines. But, I'm not sre if any use the Al blocks. All of the truck engines we use at the GM plant where I work have cast iron blocks.

All LS series engines are aluminum blocks, with the lone exception of the LSX. Vortec (LS based) models have iron blocks.
For SUV's, the LS2 was installed in the SSR (SUV???) and the Trailblazer SS. The LS1 was also installed in the SSR the first two years of production.
The CTS-V used the LS6 motor (C5 Z06) in '04, and then the LS2 ('05+). The new Z06 motor is the LS7.
