Default low oil light

could someone confirm that the intermittent low oil light light on my
'92 LT1 is because of the the low oil sensor.
any help appreciated.

Pull the sensor out and have a look at it mate. Are you certain there is enough oil in there? Under what conditions do you see the light?

Stop and go traffic?
Slow cruise?
Regular cruise?
Highway cruise?
Performance driving?
Drag strip?
Race track?

hi,
There is plenty of oil.
The light comes on from start up and stays on,
but not every time the engine is started.
I beleive this may be a known problem but would like
confirmation before I order the part.
Nick.

Nick I can't tell you how prevalent this is, but do know the one on my 93 went bad. There should be some diagnostic help in the FSM if you have one, I would do that before ordering the part, good luck.

Ive never heard of it as a known problem before, have you checked the wiring and connections?

You can test the function of the low oil indicator using the CCM diagnostics, itll be listed in section 8 of book 1 of the GM factory service manual.

FSM = Factory Service Manual. The $100.00 + 2 book set from Helm inc.

Yeah FSM is the book im talking about, as Kalister said its an acronym for Factory Service Manual.

The CCM section is somewhere in section 8, probably section 8D but ive never looked for it in a 92 manual, so not certain on exact pages.

My 92 would do that on occasion. I pulled the wire connector and cleaned the contacts on both the sensor and the connector and never had a problem after that.

The engine in my car was one of the LT1's that had leak issues with the front seal so there was a buildup of oil on the sides of the oil pan. Once I cleaned everything up, no more problems.
