There is no drain plug.
Only way to get oil out is by cracking the diff head loose.
Much work , have to remove bolts from C beam to loosen head
There is a mod some people do by drilling through one of the bottom bolt holes in the bat wing ( which are blind tapped ) so as to allow the oil to be drained there. Bolt then becomes the drain plug soto speak
I've never tried this but maybe stick a small soft tube in the fill hole and suck most of it out....then add new (posi approved) oil 'till it runs out of the drain hole.
Do not rotate the tires or driveshaft with the siphon tube in the differential.

I used a rotary peristaltic hand pump in the vent to remove my diff fluid. It worked great. According to what I measured coming out, I pratically removed all the fluid that should have been in there.
My helms does not have a blow up of the differential only the differential's carrier....the vent is not on the carrier according to the pics/parts list page.....must be on the differential....feel around the top and or between the webbing.
I need some step by step instructions on changing the fluid in my Dana 44 on my 89......thanks
...i've an 88 and did this a few weeks ago.......there is (on my 88) a fill hole on the passenser side of the gearbox...go to advance auto parts and buy the small red hand pump they have (approx $13.00)..remove the plug in the gearbox and insert the hose and use the pump untill the gearbox is as empty as you can get it.....then, take your limited slip additive and your gear oil and reverse the proceedure (and the hoses) until the oil starts to drip out of the hole...replace the plug and your'e done.....
