Default tools for porting intake???

I just recieved my spare intake manafold ( crossfire ) and now its time to port the heck out of that thing.

where do I go to get the propper porting tools, and wich ones are good, I dont want to spend a arm and a leg, I just want what Im gona need to do the job,

so what should I get, and how much is too much to pay for it?

I have a ton of dremel tool stuff for the small details, and polishing,
but im going to get a cheap o mini air grinder to hook to my compressor, and then what for the grinding bits? carbide cutters?

There is a company called Brinker Brown, they carry carbide and other high speed cutting tools. I always dealt with the company in Ft. Meyers but I know they have a store on the east coast, somwhere around Miami. They can get the cutters and extensions you will need. Their Ft. Meyers phone # 239-939-3535

This is where I buy carbide burrs.

Those aren't best quality but price is good.
If you'll work only with aluminum single cut burrs are better choice.

You will need a die grinder with a 1/4" collet. Anything smaller likely won't have enough power. That is definitely true of an electric grinder.

You won't need the sanding rolls as sold for porting or that are in some porting kits. I don't know about Lowes or Home Depot, but a good industrial hardware store ought to have the burr(s) you need. Summit carries them, also. If you buy the burrs made for aluminum, they will load up and need cleaning, much less often than those made for steel or cast iron.

RACE ON!!!

Easiest/best way is to pay someone who does it every day...But if you gotta get your hands dirty...you too can make an expensive paperweight out of your nice GM parts

For heavier material removal/aggressive cutting (example)

Usually take a second pass with something similar to this

The actual sizes and shapes are something youll have to play with (get a bunch of them)....Finer stuff youll play with flap wheels and cartridge rolls. Keep the tip well lubed and watch your rpm, dont need much. Otherwise you will burn up/clog up your bit.

A good quality bit you can have sharpened...Cheap stuff youll throw out, they generally have quite a bit of life in them. I bought a couple reeel noce ones, Im trying to remmeber where..Some cheaper ones I bought locally

Some cases or as experience comes you may find you dont need the heavy cutters as often...Ihave so many of these stupid things it would make your head spin. Some Ill never even use.

I suggest taking some pointers from someone who knows what they are doing and practicing on some junk parts.

Its not as easy as it looks, believe me, plus you have to know where/where not to cut to make the part work right.

Get good stuff....bargain basement quality youll regret. Some bits can cost $50 a piece

Oh and for Chrissakes, wear eye protection no matter what. One metal sliver will more than ruin your day with a hospital visit. That stuff gets EVERYWHERE.
