can I drop the drive shaft on my 91 auto vert without removing the beam that goes between the trany and the diff.? If not do i need to support the trany or the diff.?
ok, it looks like the c-beam needs to come out. how do I get to the nuts on the top? or do i need to drop the rear end? or drop the rear end and then the shaft comes out?
I have the exhaust out, and the drive shaft will not slip out as it binds against the side of the car. I could cut out the flange where its binding, but dont want to do that.
did a search and on the lt1 cars, every one says it will come out. need to get this done as a road trip is planned for tomarrow to reno.
thanks
tom

those c-beams are a HUGE PITA...to reinstall, slide it in place on the diff first, then use a screwdriver and pry the tranny towards the dirver's side and slip the c-beam past it. its not fun, but once it goes, its like butta...
now that I have the U-Joints out of the driveline, it rattles, what up with that? what could be loose in there? or is that normal?

It sounds like sand in there it is probably just some slag from welding....forget about it.
If you can't pry the driveshaft back in loosen all 4 bolts then remove the 2 "C beam" bolts on the tranny side( you will have to support the tranny) and remove 1 bolt on the differential(the one closest to the tranny) now just swing the beam over to the passenger side for a little extra room to wiggle it back in.
