Default Different cam in 90 Convert.?

I have a few faulty lifters in my 1990 convertible. It is an automatic with 130K miles. I've been advised to not just change out the faulty lifters but to change them all, including replacing the cam. With that in mind I was thinking about more of a performance cam but do not know what to go with as far as cost and streetable performance. The car is stock except for muffler deletes.

Did the roller lifters actually stop turning thus damaging the cam lobes? Is there a different problem with the lifters?

If you plan to leave your heads stock, which I assume by your post you will, keep the cam lift to around .450". Increase your duration, above the anemic, to around 211-215. Street ablility isn't a problem. I don't know if they offer this cam anymore but if I were in your position I'd buy a Superprofile from TPiS.

I have been thinking about this a bit myself. I want to put in a better cam and some roller rockers. I might change heads at some point but that will be a year or 2 down the road. Of course with new heads I'll need a new intake. So it will be a bit before I can afford that combo. I love the sound of a bigger cam.

This is in an 89 L98. It has 51,xxx on it.

What would be a good cam?

Anytime you do cam/rocker valvetrain work, the stock springs are junk. Especially w/ any mileage & the age of our cars. Mine were total crap at around 75K miles a few years back.

If you adding lift from cam or rocker change (1.6 vs 1.5 stock), you will just wear the springs that much faster.

If you change the cam to anything worthwhile, you need to change the springs too. So add that expense to the list.

We'd need to know what is in the future plans for the car to recommend something. Some suggestions are on my website. (click my name)
