rusty muffler and pipes?
Just installed back to stock mufflers replacing the Monza Muffers that completely rusted out on my '89. That's just after 4 years - rusted out on the incoming pipes and also the mufflers were ripped at the hanger's attachement - so I needed peace with stock.
Is there any reason why it got so rusty? The Y - pipes were bitch to remove from the muffler pipes from the rust. Is this a sign of too much moisture from engine exhaust? 4 years ago I also had to replace the Y-pipes from rust. I live in Southern Cal so very little rain and humidity here.
Also - is there only one rubber hanger between the muffler hangers and the cat converter? If so, seems like a single point failure where if the hanger broke - the muffler may drop to the asphalt since the rubber hanger would break and at high speeds the sparks would ignite the fuel tank. Am I missing something here?

Sounds like crappy quality. My OEM mufflers were still good after 18 years.
Even if your hanger in that location breaks (mine did), the pipe won't drop to the ground. That hanger is cheap $8 at CC. Replace it if you are concerned.
