HELP.. Electrical problem with interor lights and alarm
I washed the car today and the interior lights won't go out. I drove the car around a bit figuring that something got wet, this happened once before. The auto door locks recycled and the door ajar light was on constantly. I unhooked the negative terminal of the battery and let it set a few minutes. Hooked it back up and the inside light finally went out. I was putting the tools away and the car alarm went off. Put the key in and the alarm went off. This now has happened three times with the alarm. Now the battery is unhooked and ideas whats causing this gremlin?
Re: HELP.. Electrical problem with interor lights and alarm (Danger Dave)
I experienced a similar problem with my '89 when it was brand new. I would lock the
car and start to walk away, then as soon as the interior lights turned off, the alarm
would start to sound. Also, the alarm would not shut off after the normal 3 minute
cycle. It just kept sounding again and again. It turned out to be an electrical short.
Some wires had been installed incorrectly and the insulation had been damaged. If
you got something wet, it might cause a similar problem. Other than that, I don't
have a clue. Electrical problems are way over my head  Good luck.
Re: HELP.. Electrical problem with interor lights and alarm (Danger Dave)
Can't help with the alarm but the interior lights I can, my 89 did the same as yours on the lights, remove the plastic panel above passenger knees, look for wires going into a white plastic piece this is your interior lights timer, replace it and all is well again, cost about $20
Re: HELP.. Electrical problem with interor lights and alarm (Danger Dave)
Dave i sent u some scanned pages from the Helms...on pulling codes from the CCM......just in case u dont have them......the reason is that...it might be throwing a code telling u the problem.....and also u can test alot of interior stuff....like relays...etc.....via the CCM....which i think is pretty cool....to aid in T/Sing, hope the pages help in some way.
Re: HELP.. Electrical problem with interor lights and alarm (Dualnic)
Dualnic,
Big Thanks.. I am going to figure this thing out and get 'er fixed. That Helms book has got to be awesome, very detailed direction that you sent. So far this is the first problem I have had with the car except the ultra reliable CD player.
Re: HELP.. Electrical problem with interor lights and alarm (Danger Dave)
i don't know if my 96 is the same but i just went through the interior light
problem along with my pke only working after it had been activated with the
key. my problem was the anti-theft switches which are attached with one "c"
clip to the inner door locks. i'm not sure but i think the timer mentioned
only went to 89. the swiches that took care of my problem cost $15.00 ea.
good luck !!!
