Default 4+3 or 6 speed

I bought a 85 that was converted to a ZF black tag 6 speed. I'm being told I should switch back to the 4+3. I have the car apart right now for an engine rebuild.

Just looking for some opinions.

WTF is telling you THAT?? the 6 speed is a better trans...I have an 85 with the 4+3 and I like it, but I would not go out of my way to switch it BACK to a 4+3 if I had the ZF...and its not a simple in/out operation...there are others parts that have to go along with the swap...

Unless you are restoring it totally back to stock for competition/judging, i'd leave in the ZF and love every minute of it.

the 4+3 takes alot of maintence too...more than the ZF

The 4 + 3 is the text book example of reverse synergy, two good pieces = one POS. I can think of NO good reason for anybody to put a 4+3 into anything, stock or not. And yes, I've owned several and worked on alot more. If there was problems with the ZF6, you would be better served to replace it with another ZF6.

I agree that the ZF is a better trans.Swapping back would be a lot of trouble as the 4+3 shifter was boxed in the floor and you would almost need that section out of another car.

Owning a 4+3 and a ZF6 at the same time right now, all I can say is the ZF6 is like buttar. The 4+3 in good shape isn't a bad setup despite what many say (the 4 part is really the same as in all vettes going back to '62 or so), but there just is no comparison to the ZF6.

If you were gonna replace it with anything, go with a Keisler TKO. It's a bolt-in.
