Default paging Pete K.

Hey Pete was wondering what is the best way to adjust TV cable on an 85 vette .I did it the way it says to do in the Haynes manual and my trans seems to shift to soon.I was wondering if it is alright to do it the gas pedal way. That is to slide the adjuster in and push the gas pedal to the floor. seems to be two schools of thought on this in the forum archives , thanks Steve

I am not Pete but you can use the gas pedal if you want to. While you are at it, check to see if the pedal gives full WOT. That is, hold the pedal down and try to move the TB. I slotted the bracket on mine so that the pedal gave full WOT, before I changed it I could rotate the TB open more with the pedal on the floor.

I always recommend opening the throttle with the pedal, rather than manually, from under the hood. If adjusted from under the hood, you may end up adjusting it further than you have to. More than you would ever see under actual driving conditions. I didn't pop in earlier, because the post was addressed to Pete K. and I had no idea what the "the Haynes manual" said.

I have my Throttle that open perfect flat and it reach the same flat position when the pedal is depressed.
Unless you are in my same situation, follow thw Cfi-EFI advice
If you open the throttle manually (and the pedal can only open it a small amount less..), the trans never will see the max line pressure .

The TV cable adjustment has little to do with the shift points (rpms). That is a function of the governor.

Adjusting it at the throttle body is only accurate if the car actually goes to wot with the pedal on the floor. Most do fall a pinch short of wot when fully depressed.

In theory and in general, in the text books, yes. However, the 700R4 (4L60) trans has a VERY specific TV cable adjustment procedure that can deep six the trans if not followed. The TV cable is NOT to be fiddled with on these transmissions, for the purpose of changing shift quality or shift points. Plus, in my personal practical experience with my own car, I have seen very little change in the shift points by manipulating the cable adjustment. I don't know if the hydraulic circuitry in these trans reduce the effect or what it is. Recalibrating the governor is the way to alter the shift points in the 700R4 or 4L60 trans. There are governor recalibratiion kits sold for just that purpose.

It is the only correct way to change part throttle, and wide open throttle shift points. Be prepared for alot of trial and error to get it exactly where you want it.
