I just pulled my first set of Bosch Platinum's out of the box. The gap out of the box is less than .044 and the normal gap for my car is .050.
I'm afraid I'm going to break the insulator if I try to open the gap.
Two Questions:
1. Should the platinum's be gapped like stock plugs at .050???
2. Do I need to worry about breaking the insulator by wedging my gauge betwwen the tip and insulator???
Re: Do Bosch Platinum Gap The Regular Way? (92corvette)
Never mind...I found the answer...
And was it "pre-gapped from factory"? :)
I've put 2 sets of them in a couple friend's imports (supposedly they're good for them), and they have all so far been perfectly gapped right out of the box.

No they weren't pre-gapped based on the info I found on the net. And they weren't all the same out of the box. The gap out of the box was from about .039 to .045. I gapped them all to the recommended .050 for my LT1. I certainly hope the info I found was correct and I should have re-gapped them. I guess I'll find out soon.
I just bought some NGK TR55IX's for mine and I pulled the old ones out. The previous owner put the Bosches and Every plug was gapped at .040!! I guess he assumed they were pre gapped....

Did it run OK with all the plugs gapped at .040???
Heck, the info I looked up could be wrong and I may have to close the gap some, I dont' know. I'm really starting to wonder now.
It was running a little rough...not bad, my grandfather builds racing motors for a living. His books said .050....That is what I am going to gap my new plugs at.....
