Default Solid Cam 398 Alive!

Well it has been a while since I did all this stuff and I had two stupid things that cost me a few hours of time and had my kids mad at me because I didn't take time to play with them. First, I installed the plug wires on the distributor cap counter clockwise (1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2) and obviously it woud not fire. I checked three times to make sure the distributor was not 180 out. Man was that frustrating. Then it hit me and after changing the plug wires clockwise, it fired right up. Then after I set the timing, I could not remember how to clear the code 42 that it sets. Then it that also hit me. Duh! Disconnect the battery dummy!

Well like I said, two dumb mistakes. The car is still on the jackstands becasue I want to get the idle mixture set better. It idles with only 45 KPA of vacuum so its pig rich right now (I run speed density). The other thing is that the solid cam sounds nothing like I thought it would. I figured it would have a ticking sound like bad hydraulic lifter but I really can't hear anything different. Maybe I will once I drve the car.

Well I know there is nothing informative in this post but I'm just happy I got the project done.

Thanks

45 KPA of vacuum ?
Kpa is a pressure value not vacuum. Probably you would say 45 kpa of MAP manifold pressure value. (near 100 is atmospheric pressure)
45 Kpa a idle it's real close to a stock cam.
Which cam are you using?
My 230-236 112 Lsa has 55 kpa at 950 rpm in Neutral and around 60 at 900 in gear .

Well you know what I meant when I said 45 KPA of vacuum. I should said 45 kpa MAP. I'm running a TPIS solid roller cam 700-701. It is a single pattern cam with .610" lift with 1.6 rollers and 242 duration @ .050" tappet lift on a 112 LSA. With a solid roller I'm not sure how much less the lift and duration is when you factor lash.

Sorry, I was not trying to offend you. this was my last intention..
I think you can put your 242 duration to a -6, -8 deg, ending at 234-236.
The 45 map value is concerning me. (at which rpm?, in neutral?)
sorry again.

No offense taken. I'm hoping to get more information in the next few days as I get it dialed in. I'll keep you posted. I see you are from Italy. I have a dream of going there one day as I have relatives there and renting a Ferarri F430 or 360. I love Ferrari's!
