big cammed 383 idle video
I finally got my idle dialed in with my open loop tune and most of the other areas as well. It has been a real struggle because of other ignition related issues I was chasing all year since the new engine was installed in January. I am loving the sound now.
Just had to share...
Duh! I forgot the link. Here it is...

Exhaust is nice and clean when you rev the engine. Not any black smoke that I many times see.
What was the ignition problem and how'd you track it down?

I called JC at Delteq and asked if he had a clue about my problem and he had one customer that even though the alternator tested out fine it was not suppling the minimum amount of amps to the module (Mine tested out fine too). He said that would make the module get to hot and kill it. I replaced my alternator on the first of September and so far no problems.

Sounds great! It's actually pretty quiet with the cutouts closed.

In the past few months I tracked down my ignition problem to the ignition module getting burned up in about 2 weeks. Until this year, I did not know that Advanced Auto Parts has a machine that could test ignition modules.

BTW, I know that AutoZone and O'Reilly's can test them too.

cutouts
I'm not much of TPI mechanic, so I am wondering how your car can run well w/the cutouts open and closed? It sounds awesome opened. I'm trying to figure out what to run from my headers (EM, due any day)back. Actually from their header extentions back, which are 2 & 1/2".
They appear to go back to where the resonator is on an LT1 motor, so I am thinking of looking for a used LT1 exhaust from the resonator back.
I would rather put an x-pipe there, but am haveing trouble finding one, plus I dont know the dimension between the extensions yet. My car is an 89 ragtop, so the X-brace may come into play w/true duals. Merle says Corsas are hard to beat, but they are way too much for me. I would like to find something in 2 &1/2" mandrel bent pipe, with an x-pipe in there somewhere. Could you shoot me some pics of your exhaust, including the cutouts? My email address is in my avatar. Thanks, any advise from anyone would be much appreciated.

Sounds really sweet!
I'm working on some elec cutouts as well. Being able to turn down at a moments notice or just before getting to home for a healthy neighbor relationship can be a wonderful thing.

Sounds surprisingly tame with that big of a cam..Honestly I think it sounds better corked up, has a nice clean rasp to it.

The exhaust design is Hooker LT headers, no cats. 3" duals going to a Magnaflow center muffler with x-pipe inside. I then got a stock LT1 exhaust and grafted it to that. You can see how I did the rest. I have no resonance open or closed. I highly recommend the DMH e-cutouts (http://www.dmhperformance.com/). I have had others and the DMH ones are superior quality. They open and close fast too.

It is running 30 degrees of timing at 1000 rpm. I could nearly get rid of the lope with probably 34 degrees and at 1100 rpm. Of course, I purposely am running 30 degrees at 1000 rpm. Got to have some lope.
