Hey guys my 84 has a cracked tank on the radiator, where should I get a replacement? Napa has one for $200, modine brand. Who has the best deal on an all aluminum version? How big of a PITA is this gonna be?
You don't need an all aluminum radiator. They run upward to about $500.00. That Modine you found at NAPA is an excellent OE replacement and will serve you well, but it is over priced. You should be able to find the same exact radiator for $150.00 or less. However, with no more than a cracked tank, all you need to do is have that tank replaced. If you'll take the radiator to the rad shop, they should replace the tank, parts and labor (with the radiator already out) for less than half the cost of a radiator. Let your fingers do the walking.
I've bought a few radiators from www.radiators.com They're reasonably priced and usually arrive the next day. Otherwise you'll have to go local and spend more which is sometimes ok because you can see what you're buying. Replacing the tanks is do-able at any reliable radiator shop. Some may say the discount radiators are junk but I've had good luck with the few I've bought. I do know the Vette radiator I bought for the '85 came with the coolant level sensor plug in it that was used in later models. Didn't have to do anything with it but it did fit the '85 just fine.

Just be wary of a "bargain" radiator that doesn't have an aluminum core. Some of the "off shore" will fitters tout radiators that have more rows of tubes and say that they cool better than the stock radiator. The problem is, it TAKES more rows of tubes for a copper/brass radiator to equal an aluminum radiator.
I am not saying that www.radiators.com is a bad place to buy. I'm just saying that regardless of where you buy, watch WHAT you buy.
