Thank you SCCA VETTE! One last question, the shoulder belts attached to your cage or a harness bar but what do the lap belts attached to? Do they just wrap around the back of the seat or?

Cool thanks, the PCA, in their DE are now requiring proper seats if you want to run a harness.

Default sub belt

this is a much more important item than most realize, many ignore...on impact the SHOULDER harness loads and pulls the lap belts UP, causing abdominal injuries as the lap belts are pulled above their proper location and compress into the occupant...the sub belt can keep the lap belts down across the pelvic area and prevent this injury.

location of the sub belt anchor point should be offset from occupant centerline to prevent ''soft tissue'' injury if the occupant (esp males) does actually ''submarine'' under the lap belts.

I have the sub belt secured to the metal seat bracket cross bar.

Ours does have the sub belt hole. Ours has a custom bracket and mount. The Sub belt is secured on a piece of 1'' round steel with holes on either side. It keeps the belt from "bunching" and moving. Sub belts help in overall comfort as well. Have a lap belt get under your sternum and you'll know what I'm saying!!

Cool, I already have a bracket for it, running a 5 point with stock seats now. I got the bracket from R&D Racing, mounts a fire extinguisher on it and secures the sub belt.

Are you looking for some cheesey seats that look sporty, or are you looking for some real functional ones? And what style of racing are you planning on doing?

Gary, I was the one that sat in SCCA Vettes seats at Fun Fest and showed him where the hole in the seat for the sub belt is. They are pretty comfortable and are the ones I will probabably get as well, red of course. The seats seem to fit in the car real well.

It was nice to talk to you at the Funfest Bob and thanks for giving your input on the seats.

Oh and thanks again for showing me the sub strap holes. I never even thought to look for them!

I am 6'5" and around 305 lbs. I am going to have to start wearing a helmet because with my new motor set up I am busting 7.7's in the 1/8th. I was thinking of buying a race seat and bolting it directly to the floor. Has anyone done this and how much additional head room can I expect?

if you get a ''real'' race seat that is a welded aluminum bucket, the ''upholstery'' that comes with those is only abt 1/2'' thick, so you'll almost be sitting on the floor pan, minus a bit lost if the seat you get needs to be tilted back (many different styles/prices are sold)...pull your stock seat out and try sitting on the floor pan to get the picture.
