I have a '96 CE LT4. I was reading a Corvette history book today at Barnes and Nobles. They spoke about the ASR in the '90 year vettes. I never turned mine off (never gave it much thought). Do most folks drive with it on or off? With it off is it more fun to drive aggresively?
My LT4 CE's ASR is off at the drag strip but on pretty much everywhere else in case I hit sand or something. It stayed off a bit when I first got the car, but I don't drive aggressively enough on the street to activate the system, and I hit the mountain roads as often as I can.
I absolutely hate the fact that ASR comes on automatically. Every time I start my car, I turn if off immediately. So annoying! I can't even remember how many times I've tried to accelerate quickly while making a left turn because of oncoming cars and having it engage and slow me down. Bah!

ON all the time unless I'm playing. ALWAYS ON in the RAIN!
Thanks for input. I've only owned the car for a few months and it's just something I did not think about until today. I only push it safely when pulling on highways from ramps (slow down a bit then hit it). I'll definitely give it a try this weekend with it off

This seems to be my beef also. If I don’t make a conscious effort to turn it off when getting into traffic on a turn or a slightly bumpy road and a wheel slightly breaks loose, it will activate the ASR just when you need to power to be safe getting into traffic. I have one or two turns I go thru every day that will activate the ASR if I am to aggressive on the gas.
Other wise for most of my normal street driving I leave it on which has no effect for my everyday driving.
Except of course when it time to have extra fun.
I remember a post year about a year or two ago from another member who had a CE. It was an automatic and he pulled out to pass a car in a passing lane. I can't remember if the road was wet or just damp. Anyway, ASR was off and when he put his foot into it for the short passing lane it broke loose and swapped ends quicker than he could react. Ended up in the other lane where he hit a Jeep which was lifted and drove right over the CE. He then bounced of the guardrail before coming to a stop. Completely totalled. That story and the pictures made me an instant believer.
Always turn it off. I purchased the Vette as my daily driver AND as a performance car. Drive it like you stold it. No garage queen here.
My favorite saying is "rode hard and put away wet".
I actually messed mine up somehow. I switched it off and did a nice burnout and the service ASR light came on and stayed on. The system does not work anymore. I put a piece of electrical tape over the warning light. My right foot is my ASR.
Leave mine alone most of the time. Can remember only one time back in 96 I was on a very steep incline and starting from a stop the tires broke loose and the ASR reacted. Usually don't drive the car in the rain since it is not my daily driver.
