Lighten Hood

Lighten Hood
I pulled off the hood on my 84, and it seems pretty darn heavy.
Has anyone tried to lighten it up by removing the inner structure?
How much weight might it remove?
I don't need the crossfire intake or any intake.
thanks, jack

Burning Brakes
i removed all non-essential inner duct work and structure...and it STILL weighs a TON...
we really dont have an option though as a carbon fiber unit is big change

Headlight Weight
Do you recall how much weight savings there was from removing the inner structure? Was it real flimsy afterwards?
I'm certainly aware of racing hoods, but at $1,500+++, that costs more than my car! Whereas removing inner structure is $0.00.
I'm thinking the headlights and the raising motors actually make up quite a bit of the weight. Are their simple inexpensive way to eliminate them, with installation of some OEM headlight setup without the raising?
I also have a Fiero and the headlight mechanism is heavy, but some have replaced the headlight doors with clear plastic and put fixed headlights inside.

That hood's worth a lot of $$$
Sell it off and get a light weight one.
The carbon ones are a little pricey, but you can get a fiberglass one pretty cheap.
You'll have to do something else with the lights though.
Mount them in the engine compartment, or fill in the holes if it's a track car.
