Default 87 Coupe Telltale

What is the order of the Tell-Tale Lights?
Left to right, top to bottom
Row 1 - 1 2 3 4
Row 2 – 5 6 7 8
Row 3 – 9 10 11 12

Something like 1 = Fasten Seat Belts, 2 = Brake, 3 = Security, 4 = Check Engine, 5 = Low Fuel, 6 = Door Ajar, 7 = Hatch Ajar.

Helms and Owners manual only show 7 possibilities but in the diagram they show 12 blocks. If I had to pick one I would lean towards Row 2, third light from the left, number 7 in my diagram above.

I have checked the search on here and didn’t find anything along with the Helms and Owners Manual. They just show TELLTALES (See Items 14 thru 20).

I have a light flashing but it doesn’t stay on long enough to see which one it is.

I did just replace the rear wheel bearings a couple of days ago and the Service Engine Soon light came on Monday and it threw a code 32. Is off now but will be replacing all EGR parts soon so as to not have it come on. Still haven't figured out the Anti-Lock Tell-Tale, did replace all relays but that didn't help.

Somewhere there as to be a Corvette fairy that can remove this spell that is on me. Within the last month I have replaced the alternator, all 4 tires, steering wheel, both rear wheel bearings, take it for a ride over 2 days for approximately 100 miles at the most to try and run out any rust from the E-brake pads, on the way home Service Engine Soon comes on, remove the Targa top from the back holders to find a crack in it from sitting and now a flashing Tell-Tale light.

One day my luck has to change and I can take a couple of rides without breaking something.

My FSM lists 9. Never looked for whats where, but doesn't the ECM test all the lights, each time the IGN is turned on.

I thought it would test all the lights myself but it doesn't appear as though it does. Sitting here at work wondering if it could be a door ajar or hatch ajar light and one of them has a bad contact. Who would ever think that something on a Corvette wasn't getting a good contact.

Not quite sure how better to describe this.... you have a bank of Tell-Tale lights on the dash for things like Security, Service Engine Soon etc.

I am trying to determine which light is in which position. Helms shows a picture of a bank of 12 lights, 3 rows of 4 in the picture and I am wondering what the sequence is starting from the top, left to right, rows 1, 2 and 3. The picture shows something like what I have below:

row 1 - [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ]
row 2 - [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ]
row 3 - [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ]

Here's what I have found on my 87 going by rows and from left to right

Row 1
Unknown - SECURITY - LOW TIRE PRESSURE - HATCH AJAR

Row 2
SEAT BELT - SERVICE ENGINE SOON - SERVICE LPTWS - BRAKE

Row 3
BATTERY ICON - UNKNOWN - LOW COOLANT - ANTILOCK BRAKE

On my 87 when I turn the ignition on, the Seat Belt, SES, Brake and Battery icon lights up immediately. The Low Coolant light and the antilock brake lights also come on for just a second and then turn off. My Hatch Ajar lights works but I don't see a "Door Ajar" light (maybe burnt out??) My VATS system is disabled (controller gone) so I would expect the Security light to come on briefly if the system worked.

If you have LTPWS, the chances are that the Service LTPWS light would come on briefly. The Low Tire Pressure indicator would probably only come on when the system sees a low pressure in a tire.

As far as the two "Unknowns", that's hard to say. Some of the items I listed were just visible when I shined a flashlight across the face of the display. Sometimes when the sun hits the panel just right, you can also see the lettering.

I don't think there is a Low Fuel indicator on that panel. The gas pump symbol on the fuel level display lights up on my car when the reserve level is hit, showing about 2 gallons remaining.

Thanks C4 I was sitting here at working thinking why didn't I shine the flashlight I was using to trace the EGR system into the panel. Was my plan tonight and then answer my own post so if someone else had the problem they might see a solution. I don't think I have the low tire pressure sensors on the vehicle so it might be the brake, which would make sense since I was playing wiht the E brake while changing out rear wheel bearings.
