My new U joints came with a screw that goes into one of the caps. How's this work?
Its not a zerk and has a hole all the way through it. Would it be better to put in a zerk and then when greased take out the zerk and install a regular machine screw?
My u-joints came with the same type of fitting you are talking about, luckily my friend has the correct fitting and greased them for me. The part must be available at parts stores or maybe came with the grease gun when he bought it, I didnt ask.
Is this fitting on the bearing cap or in the "traditional" area of the u-joint?
In the top of one of the caps on each, I got the full set of DELCOs, 4 for the axles, 2 for the drive shaft. I'm thinking of putting a zerk on each to grease them and then taking it off and putting a small machine screw in the hole.

I wouldn't mess with them. Get the correct fitting for your grease gun.

Well the hole that is drilled and tapped in the cap on each U is smaller than a normal zerk. And I was wrong about the fitting haning a hole, it has a ball and spring to keep it sealed. I have to figure out a way to adapt my grease gun to it...
