Default What's that smell?

Car: 1994 6-speed Coupe 101,000 miles

Problem: I smell gas in the rear of the car. Took the license plate off and wow what a smell. Also you can smell the gas if you stick your head in the rear cargo area.

What I did: Checked for leaks and saw none. No noticeable lose in gas milage.

What should I do? Anyone out their have a simliar problem or maybe a solution to my gas problem .

Take the gas door assembly off and look inside there for any leaks.Check the hoses at the sender/gas fill neck carefully.

Drop the spare tire cover as well and look at your tank under the car.Make sure its not rusted nor have any pinholes.

If you still cannot find any wet gas leaks, you may have a busted vacuum line somewhere back there for the vapor recovery to the charcoal cannister.

If them lines break open or rot away, youre gonna smell gas fumes back there.
