Ok, havent gotten down "below" yet, but will be soon. While at the Chevy dealer, I had them pull up pads and rotors. 264.00 for front brake pads! The rotors were about half that. So I jumped over to Napa online. Cheapies are 24.00 bucks and most are about 125.00. so, of course, not getting the cheap ones, car brakes bad enough as it is, but whats the general group feeling for pads and even rotos for the C4, mines a 89. Thanks, Shawn
Are you just looking for stock-style replacements? If so, the NAPA rotors will work just fine. Brembo makes a good stock replacement rotor (made in Canada) and Tire Rack has them for about $55 each.
For pads, go with something like Raybestos QuietStop pads which are ceramic and will not generate much dust at all. The NAPA pads are made by Raybestos. Their semi-metallic pads are also good but expect some dusting.
If you want improved stopping power and don't mind a little brake dust, then check out the Hawk HPS pads. Excellent bite when cold and will work for autocross too. AC Delco pads are good quality for street use and I think they are also made by Raybestos.
Performance Friction make some good pads too. You should be able to find them at Shucks/Kragens. The "Z-rated" pads are a good performance pad for the street and some autocross/track day work.
I used the ceramic pads from NAPA. Work really well on my Ford Escape, much better than stock, not such a big improvement with these pads on the vette, but still do the job. Not bad for 80 bucks a set.
Not changed rotors, just had them resurfaced - they weren't too bad ('96 with J55). I don't rate my vette's brakes very highly, except at high speeds, I don't think the pads are to blame.
I tried Auto Zones best pads on my J-55 96 and the only difference was when I tried to slow down fast from high speeds and the the GM stock pads were much better. I now have Hawk HPS pads and they stop better than then the GM pads ( less high speed brake fade). You pay for what you want. Drive slow and cheap pads are safe.

I'd give a dealer $264. for front pads when he sucks it out of my ****. I installed Performance Friction pads on all 4 corners of my 96 LT-4 last month and am very happy with em.

Upgrade to J55 13" brakes in the front. Try NAPA for the rotors. Get good quality pads, Hawke pads are good. The Napa guys can look up the parts you need.
