On my 94 LT1 with about 112K on the clock driving around in overdrive on flat roads its fine. But driving today on some very steep inclines it would start to making this “clunking” sound around 45-50 mph after it would go over that it was fine. But it felt like the engine was losing power. When I got home I checked the dipstick and it was full and did not smell burnt. Should I just change the fluid and filter. Btw I just bought service manuals of the bay so I will have them by the end of the week if there’s something in there to help me
Pete K is the resident transmission expert, hopefully he will reply. To me it sounds like a problem with the lock up clutch in the torque converter. I have seen a fluid change help for lock up "shudder" if the fluid has deteriorated, so the trans service won't hurt. Best of luck, please post the outcome.

, well except for me being the expert:o . Jim's post is my exact thought.
I've had several GM cars with your symptoms (bucking when down shifting or coming out of converter lock-up) and all suffered from bad plug wire(s). When the engine 'lugged' the misfire showed up. Raise the hood in a very dark location, disconnect the under hood lamps and check for sparks while the engine is running.
The first occurrence cost me $100 diagnosis at a shop. Like you, I thought the trans had gone. Check for visible sparks and save a few $.
