Yep and it cost a whole lot, and lots of work to do it. Central Coaster has the long list of parts you need. I can tell ya you'll need the transmission, all the clutch parts, new driveshaft, and a Dana 44 if you dont want to tear yours up quickly.
The conversion costs will most likely run more than the current value of the 84. You don't have a lot of options for a tranny. A Kiesler or Richmond Gear tranny will run $3500 for a new one. A used ZF6 will be less, but you will need to do some interior mods Cutting of the tunnel nder the console, much less install the clutch setup (pedals, hydraulics, etc). Don't know for sure but the C-beam may be different between the A4 and manual cars.
The ECM will peobably need a new chip and you will destroy the D36 rear end if you beat on it hard.
Probably be cheaper to sell the car and look for a manual tranny car.
