Default more tech questions

I guess I have been answering motorcycle questions for newbies for long enough, getting a little help from the you guys is great payback.

How do I remove the piston from the connecting rod?

I tried putting it in a vice between two different-sized sockets... No work.
Tried grasping the piston in a vice and hitting it. No work.
Do they have to be pressed in and out? I'm thinking that's the case.
I was putting probably 100-150 pounds of pressure through them and they only budged about 1/4 of an inch.
Thanks again, I'll be a contributing member to the forum soon enough-- I promise. :-)

It's an interference fit between the pin and rod. They make a device that heats the assembly up so that you can remove the pin from the rod, but I guess your oven would do. One good reason to go to floating pins.

Romeo is right on the money. This should be done by a machine shop. The usual charge to remove and replace 8 pistons is 28 bucks.Ask them to fit the pins also which is around 16.00.It takes away the notchy feeling while rotating giving additional sevice life while reducing friction.Strongly recommended to do this! When fitting the pins be shure to tell the shop it is for a street application.I edited to add if the shop does not know what fitting the pins means or says it is not needed find another shop.
