...not enough info!...does it crank and not start?.do you turn the key and it does nothing at all?....
heheheh I know the feeling! Chasing it dowm myself. Will it turn over? Mine does, and a shot of starter fluid down the throttle body kicks it over every time!

I had a similar thing that happened to my '89 and come to find out two of my injectors were shorting out. When checking the fuel system you might want to go ahead and check your injectors. Either way it sounds like a fuel issue.
Had a similar issue as Bossman89, a bad injector in each bank. ECM would shut each bank down so zero banks at restart. 4 Hours later car would fire up but the idle was bad. Stock 89 A4 coup. New injectors and two new relays for the MAF and no problems for 15 months.
I am chasing a similar problem w/ my '90. I believe it is a bad ECM.
Is your car running rich? Does pushing in the gas pedal help it start? You would need to check fuel pressure, could be a bad/weak fuel pump relay.
if it doesn't crank, check the starter, I just recently went through this, it starts, and then no matter how short the drive, if it warms up enough to open the thermostat, it wouldn't crank. turneds out the plastic starter brush holders expand and pull the starter brushes off the armature.

Any codes?
Had two injectors that were bad.....it would start and run, but if I shut it off it would not start for about 10-15 minutes, replaced the injectors....problem gone! Good Luck!
