89 Z51 w/ limited slip?
I have an 89, six spd, Z51. Did this year come with ltd/slip differential.
I can not find this option on the internet for vettes.
The reason I ask is my car is all new except the paint. I mean motor, trans, clutch, dual mass, half shafts and drive shaft, etc.
I hear a noise comming from the back that sounds like u-joint noise. I did the work myself so I am a half azz gear head. I have taken mechanics for rides and it appears I am the only one that can hear the noise.
Back when, when I had Ford toys (and still do) we had to put an additive in to quiet the rear ends down. Before I pull the drive shaft and half shafts I would like to see if I have ltd/slip.
Any info would be appreciated.

Jack up the rear with the car in neutral, spin one tire. If the other tire spins in the same direction the car has limited slip. I think all c4 corvettes had limited slip. I would use 2 bottles of GM limited slip additive otherwise you will get some noise.

.....yes on the "slip".....as far as the noise is concerned, do a SEARCH in the forum using the search section and you will find all sorts of info on the "noise" at the rear end including a simple test as to how to determine what it is and where it is...(bearings, u-joints, etc).........and if it is either, i would replace BOTH the bearings and the u-joints and be done with it....

Lots of threads on this also in a sticky at the top. Do a search on what to use. Are you sure it's the rear you are hearing. I have the same car as you and the black tag ZF6 is a bit noisy.

Nope!
I changed to diff. oil (GM) and put two bottles of additive (GM) in. Still hear the noise. Am aware of the whine the black tag ZF makes. Not aware of any other noises the tranny makes.
I really don't want to go through the work to pull the half shafts or the drive shaft on a witch hunt when I am the only one that can hear it.
If it gets worse, maybe i can find it.
Thanks
