Do I need a scanner?
89 vert OBD 1. Do I need a scanner? I have been useing the paper clip and counting SES lights. Is a scanner going to give me more info? There are some on e-bay for 20 bucks. Thanks for input.

You can get one of thoses ODB to USB.
Using a laptop you can look at lots of thing.
Coolent temp, BLM (rich or lean), TPS voltage, trouble code and so on...
It cool to check it out...

A scan tool or scanning software for a laptop will allow you to see sensor readings, not just trouble codes which can be helpful. Be sure to buy a scanner, not a code reader. The code reader simply reads out the same ones you get with the paper clip / flash count method.
