The larger (8") "standard" GM diameter won't clear the frame crossmember on a C4. Exactly How much bigger you can safely go than the OEM 6 3/4" is a good question - there are all sorts of odd diameters available aftermarket - 6.29, 6.6, 7, 7.17, 7 1/4, 7.92, 6 1/8, 6 1/4, 7 1/2 etc.
