My 85 L98 has a whining noise coming from the fuel pump, never done it before. it is not real high of a pitch and not loud, just enough to here it, constant at all speeds. no performance issues just the noise, dont know if it is a big deal or not, or the beginning of something. the outside air temp recently dropped. about 42 degrees when this started, dont know if air tem has any bearing or not. any opinions from the people who know?
Thanks, Mike
Mike - is this the original fuel pump? How many miles does it have on it? If anything over 75000 miles, I would suggest that you change it out as soon as possible before it leaves you in a lurch without notice.
she's got 56000 miles on her I dont know if pump is original or not, probably is I guess. I replaced the filter this morning, same thing. It is the same sound that it makes when the ignition is first turned on. (comes on 2 sec then off). when the car is started, it is just a constant, I can here it while inside the car. I am guessing I should probably replace the pump before it leaves me hanging somewhere.
Thanks for your help

I noticed the same thing on my other GM cars before the pump died. Since my fuel level gauge doesn,t work and the Vette has 90k on it, I'll change both while in storage for winter.
Replaced the fuel pump and sock today. problem is fixed, also, guess I did have a slight performance issue before. The motor is alot more responsive and smoother. It cost me about 85 dollars and 45 minutes.
Thanks for all the help guys
Mike
