Default Intake Runners

Hi

I'm looking to buy a set of intake runners to have polished and replace my existing ones but have noticed that mine only has one of the smaller tubes on one side only. What are these tubes for? and can a later engine (1991) run a set with a tube on both sets of runners without any problems.

Thanks
Steve

I have some aftermarket AS&M runners that came with tubes on both sides, but on one set the tube is blocked off. I think that's the EGR connection to the plenum (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

I think that's for the 9th, cold-start injector. 85-88 models used an extra injector to provide a richer mixture during cold-start-ups. 89 and later used programming (fuel table changes) to shoot more fuel thru the 8 normal injectors.

As I do not have the 9-injector setup, I can't comment on the ability to put their parts on an 8-injector car. Don't know how the "missing holes" would match up and/or leak. Personally, I wouldn't do it.

One tube is EGR and the other is idle air.

I replaced the 9 injecter set up with an 8 injecter intake on my 86. I plugged the fule supply to the 9th injector. It ran OK, but I installed a chip from an 89 which manages cold start with the computer. After start up, it returned to idle RPM more quickly with the 89 chip. I have run it this way for a couple of years with no problems.

I was saying I wouldn't go the other way (i.e., go from an 8 injector setup to rigging 9 injector parts to make them work under the 8 setup). But it sounds like the extra tube didn't have anything to do with the 9th injector anyway. My bad.
