A custom cam from any manufacturer simply allows you to pick you own specs; we used to do this a lot when building 410 sprint car engines, we would have 20 or so different grinds that we would come up with to get tested with a certain head, compression, gear ect, and we would see which one worked the best for that application (we would have a good idea but only testing shows the what's what). With a 390 you should be right about where you want it with the cam you are looking at (the bigger one). I am curious though; if you have a 6 speed, 4:10 or steeper gears with an exotic intake system, why not have this engine hit 7000. A good set of springs and rockers will get you there easy with your top end. Also on the LSA we always found that the tighter we went with it, the bigger the bulge in midrange power; that's why we used the 106-107* stuff on the circle track engines and the 112+ on drag engines. Spreading the lobe separation will give you a peakier power plant with more top end Hp and it will give you better idle quality for a said duration @.50 (the main reason we put them in street cars).

well i only have a 355 not a 390 and my lt4s are a far cry from eliminators.. brett bauer on camaroz28.com does custom cams..
