Default 1986 4+3 with code 45, then code 44 ???

Hello,
I'm getting a code 44 (lean) after fixing a code 45 (rich) by replacing the O2 sensor. My Haynes manual is not too helpful. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The Haynes is an excellent tool... to keep the car from rolling. Order the FSM and follow the trouble shooting charts for the codes you need to fix. As expensive as that book is, it will pay for itself many times over in the unneeded parts you won't be buying.

RACE ON!!!

Sounds like it could be your O2 sensor, check the connections on it.

Thanks for the links and information. I am working my way through the various steps. Charcoal cannister looks O.K. Got another 45 code (rich) which seems logical - exhaust seems rich - engine smooths out a bit when it goes into open loop. It does run somewhat better now that it has a new oxygen sensor. Connections to ECM look good. Will check MAP. Any thoughts on what to look at next - i.e. common problems? Thanks.
