Default Need 4+3 Overdrive Unit Pan

I tried several times to seal my overdrive pan, but failed every time. My mechanic buddy seems to think that the pan was warped with over torquing the bolts the first time I put it back on. (actually, someone else tightened the bolts). Anyways, he wants to just buy a new pan, but I can't find one anywhere. Any suggestions?

Have you tried a gasket for it? The filter kits from ecklers and corvettecentral come with a cork gasket. Put a little RTV on it and torque it carefully and it would have to be a really warped pan not to seal with that.

What about "The Right Stuff" from Permatex? Several CF members mentioned having excellent results using it.

I used the filter and gasket kit from Ecklers. Since the car is so low, I had the work done at a shop. The mechanic was indeed careful with the bolts on the pan; they do not take that much torque.

The gasket that came with the kit, however, has a bit of a drip (annoying). Prior to using the gasket, there was no drip. I think the factory just used sealant on the OD pans. I'm planning to have the gasket taken off and try "The Right Stuff" instead; in fact I have already purchased a can of it. I'm going on the great reviews that fellow CF members gave that product.

Just thought to suggest "The Right Stuff"; the small investment in trying it might "pan" out ....

Call SK Speed at 631 957 9427 .
They rebuild 4+3 OD's and might have an extra pan or can advise how to seal it.

Default Right Stuff

Yeah, it was suggested to me as well. I used it with the same results. I was then told that when you replace these oil pans, you have to let them sit with the RVT or Right Stuff for 12 hours before putting in fluids. I have not tried that yet, as I am in India at the moment. My mechanic buddy told me he would take a look at it, but he is pretty stuck on the fact that he wants a new pan. They are very hard to find. I think if I was there, I would tear it down again and use the right stuff while letting it set up over night. What a pain in the neck this has been.

Thanks for the sk speed tip. I will shoot them an email. I just sent an email to http://www.pipersauto.com/4speeds.html as well, based on the recommendation of Corvette Central.
