Does anyone know of a good shifter for the autos that will fit in the console? Or how to mod one to work like a bangshifter? I know its faster in drive, but sometimes...........I like to bang it into 2nd and chirp, especially when the dumb ricers are makin noise around me!
I cut notches into the stock shift gate to give shift feel on upshifts and lockout on down shifts. Some pics and method on my site. Of course I bought a used shifter to experiment with.
It works pretty well on the 1-2 & 2-3 shifts; needs a little work on the 3-4 gate segment. I too like to roll out in 1st, crack the throttle to spin em up and then punch it up to 2nd.
I put in a B & M Megashifter ratcheting shifter. They don't make one for the Vette console. The one I put in is for a F body. I have a friend that does custom hot rod interiors and he said he can make a nice leather boot so I can get rid of the rubber one that isn't long enough to reach the console. It did take some work to get it to fit but not too bad and it is great for shifting.
Thats a bit bulky. I have seen the shifters in the Dragsters and they are quite small, some have 3 speeds, I wonder if there is one with 4? They would fit real nice in the console.
65Z01- Does it lock at all between shifts, or just click and give slightly more resistance?
Between upshifts it just clicks so you can both hear and feel it but no lockout. On downshifts it won't go below 3rd without depressing the button. So once you upshift you can pull back to verify the correct gear. Also it's a very short throw from gear to gear.
